Harpy

$30.00

The Harpy is a unique and visually stunning slingshot design, but above all it is exceptionally accurate which is typical of a Bill Hays design. It is also very comfortable to grip and hand-slap resistant, a great little perk. In our experience though, it is also somewhat hand-size specific. This provides quite the challenge for conventional manufacturing. Our 3D printing system offers infinitely variable sizing, so customers may order a slingshot fit to their hand.

Being our first 3D printed slingshot, we wanted to test the suitability of a 3D printed Harpy. Loops connected to a load cell were attached to the band mounting points on a fork and they were tensioned until failure. An image, captured at the moment of failure, showed 156.0 kilograms or approximately 344 pounds. To be clear, strength will vary somewhat based on material and slingshot size, however this should be adequate safety margin for a Harpy in good condition to run bands of normal reasonable force.

Tremendous thanks to Bill Hays for generously providing a template for this design, and giving permission for the sale of this interpretation of it.

Because these slingshots are 3D printed, we’re able to size them on a virtually continuous spectrum. The standard size is for hands about 86mm across the knuckles, which works for the majority of shooters, however if you have particularly large or small hands we can scale the slingshot custom for you. How strong is a 3D printed slingshot?
